Week 8 - Breathe (In the Air) by Pink Floyd
Ah, Pink Floyd: one of the greatest rock bands to ever exist. Let me just start off by fangirling about the entirety of the album The Dark Side of the Moon. The album is based on the concept of madness and how people are driven into its clutches, and this is one of my favorite concept albums ever. Listening to it from start to finish all the way through without stopping, it honestly feels like you're listening to one really long song. The songs melt and bleed together, giving you that feeling of madness and not knowing when things start or finish or where you are in the album unless you look at the title. Another one of my favorite things is how this album syncs almost perfectly with the movie The Wizard of Oz when played at a specific moment. It really just adds to the psychedelic rock vibes this album already gives on its own. Breathe is probably one of my favorite songs on the album just because it makes me feel like I'm floating on air or drifting through it in a haze while someone is singing softly to me about how I just need to relax or I'm going to cause my own premature demise. The lyrics are a little confusing but that's what I think it's telling its listeners to do; it's a warning to not fall into the madness of life and let yourself be busy all the time because that's what's expected of people. Life isn't easy but as long as you breathe, you'll be okay.
Hey! So I love that you started off by fangirling about Pink Floyd. I did my blog on Money and I totally did the exact same thing. When looking at concept albums, this is definitely one of the best ones out there, hands down. I really like how you connected the theme of going mad to how listening to the album all at once makes you feel like you're going mad. I've never thought about it that way and I think its a really cool perspective. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to geek out a bit over this album, and I think you did a great analysis of this song :)
